Through our Careers Corner, students have access to industry talks, work experience opportunities, and visits to universities and employers. Careers support is integrated into daily life, allowing students to engage with it whenever needed.


Our careers programme aligns with our character education initiative, focusing on building virtues such as resilience, self-discipline, and respect. This combination helps students develop the personal qualities necessary for success in both their personal and professional lives.

Our Careers Provision

At Mulberry Academy St Leonards, we prepare our students for a successful future by fostering wellbeing, citizenship, and employability. Our careers provision aligns with our personal development (PD) pillars, encouraging students to explore diverse career options and make informed decisions about further education, including college and apprenticeships.

We emphasize understanding the local labour market, helping students consider opportunities in their area while also inspiring them to discover wider training and education options. Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders and support agencies, we provide specific engagements and opportunities that equip our students for future employability at local, national, and global levels. We promote a culture of openness and inquiry, striving for excellence in preparing our students for lifelong success in an ever-changing world.


Careers Provision

Careers Corner

Careers have always been a key aspect of the extra provision at Mulberry Academy St Leonard’s, and we are proud to work with a range of external agencies that offer outstanding services. However, we’ve often lacked a dedicated space for students to actively engage with these opportunities. That’s where Careers Corner comes in.

Careers Corner is a space designed not only to provide students with support but also to empower them to take an active role in shaping their own future, students know they can access guidance here, but it goes beyond that – it’s a place for them to take ownership of their career planning and aspirations. By working directly with professionals and exploring their interests, students can refocus, set meaningful goals, and understand the steps needed to achieve them.

At Mulberry Academy St Leonard’s, we believe that students are the drivers of their own future, and Careers Corner is where they can begin to map out that journey with confidence and clarity.

This initiative also gives careers a permanent presence in students’ daily school life. No longer limited to assemblies, tutor time, or occasional conversations, careers guidance is now a constant, accessible resource for students to engage with whenever they need it.

Evaluation

We use Gatsby Benchmarks to systematically evaluate and enhance our educational provision. We are also working towards the Investor in Careers Mark, demonstrating our commitment to high-quality career guidance for our students. These initiatives ensure we equip students with the skills they need for future success.

Careers programme for each year group


Students begin their careers journey by exploring their skills, interests, and the world of work through tutor time activities and a dedicated careers module. They also participate in enriching experiences like RAF STEM days, alumni presentations, and careers workshops.

Students build on this foundation, deepening their understanding of different career pathways through lessons on careers development, workplace diversity, and informed decision-making. Key events include Labour market talks, Sussex University Day, and Discovery Day for Work.

Students receive support through options evenings, personal development lessons on employment laws, personal careers guidance, financial capability, and labour market information. Students also attend Compact Plus university visits and the STEM Big Bang event.

Students focus on post-16 pathways with personal development lessons on employability and careers advice. Highlights include a careers fair, work experience, local college taster days, and university visits, all aimed at preparing them for their next steps.

Each student has an individual careers guidance meeting with a Level 6 trained advisor to create a tailored action plan. Assemblies from post-16 providers, tutor time sessions, and the ‘Embrace the Challenge’ event all support students as they navigate college applications and plan for their future.
