At The St Leonards Academy, we are committed to improving and developing the reading skills of all students to ensure their academic success and foster a lifelong love of reading. Reading is central to our curriculum, with a strong focus on vocabulary development and reading for pleasure. We offer a variety of reading support interventions, including the use of Frayer models for vocabulary teaching, Better Reading Partners peer tutoring, and the Lexia PowerUp programme for students with significant reading challenges.
Our library, open all day and after school, provides a welcoming space for students to explore books, and every student in Years 7-9 spends dedicated time in the library as part of their curriculum. Reading is assessed regularly, and tailored support is provided to struggling readers to ensure all students can thrive.
